SEVEN TOGETHER ALONG DELMAR

The seven neighborhoods (The seven neighborhoods along Delmar: West End, Visitation Park, Academy, Fountain Park, Lewis Place, Vandeventer and Covenent Blu-Grand Center, have  strong leadership rebuilding this historically Black middle class neighborhood. With the Hodiamont Tracks redesign through the Great Rivers Greenway connecting one end of the neighborhood to another, the greenspace and recreation space is extensive. Stretching from one arts district on the east (Grand Center) to another on the west, the arts are a strong influence in the area. Identifying art as the creative use of skills to address issues, the Arts Chamber is working with the Lady Leaders, Great Rivers Greenway and residents to make a difference. Some of our current and potential projects include:

Art and Performance Festival

August 2021 In August several forces come together to create a neighborhood art festival.

Early August is the annual neighborhood trash bash. Early August is also the Bicentennial of the State of Missouri creating an opportunity to celebrate the history of the neighborhood. The programming will introduce the design plan for the Hodiamont Tracks to solicit resident input. The Hodiamont Tracks were once the route of a streetcar line and in later years a bus route. While the bus route is no longer active, the 3.5 mile corridor has the potential to become a greenway that would link the St. Vincent and the future Brickline Greenways.

In addition to connecting to existing and future greenways, it would link numerous schools, parks, houses of worship and neighborhoods.

Business Support to Build Capacity for Neighborhood Artists

Through business mentoring, mastermind groups and technical assistance support artists living in the neighborhoods to build their practices.

Potential Projects

Potential projects to modify traffic flow by creating sculptures in key locations and create an arts corridor.. The list is extensive. Live in the area and have an idea? Let us know!

Vacant Lots

Revitalize empty lots to decrease potential for crime, improve the look of the neighborhoods and improve property values while supporting local artists in designing the spaces.

Approximately 30% of the lots along the 3.5 mile length of the Seven Together Neighborhoods are empty lots. This influences potential for illegal activities and is an eye sore decreasing overall property values. The initial project will focus on one lot in each of the seven neighborhoods, identified by the neighborhood residents, to be “blitzed” for a clean up, nature reclamation and transformation into parks, gardens or other neighborhood priorities designed by local artists.

The Design Team of the Conceptual Plan from the Hodiamont Tracks will select and complete three vacant lots as a seed project and part of the Conceptual Plan. The St. Louis Arts Chambers will be charged to work with neighborhoods, select and complete four lots. In the end, all seven neighborhoods will have a lot redone in a way to address the individual needs of the specific neighborhood of that lot.
