#MASK UP ST. LOUIS!

This collaborative partnership between the St. Louis Arts Chamber of Commerce and numerous businesses, organizations, municipalities and artists was formed to install custom-made masks on statues and sculptures throughout St. Louis City and County.

In order to encourage mask wearing as a way to help combat the coronavirus pandemic, many of the very visible and visited pieces of public art around our region will don a St. Louis themed mask throughout the fall of 2020. Local artists and volunteers will be fabricating custom masks that are individually designed to fit each statue and sculpture approved for this project. The Arts Chamber has been working with local suppliers to help obtain low-cost supplies for making the masks, and has applied for grant funding in the hopes of being able to compensate participating artists for their time and talent.

Masks were installed around Labor Day and remain on display through Halloween.

How to Participate

There are several ways you can participate in #MaskUpSTL this fall! A full directory and map of each sculpture/location is listed below, along with a few unique opportunities you can take part in…

  • Be Social & Stay Safe If you don’t feel comfortable going out to view our region’s public art work — no worries! Photos of each participating sculpture (both with and without a mask) can be viewed in the listing below. However, if you do plan to go appreciate this art in person, we have a few reminders: First and foremost: remember to always wear a mask, practice social distancing, and wash your hands. Check out the map and directory of participating artwork below.
  •  Plan an afternoon trip or just swing by one of these locations between now and Halloween. Encourage your friends and family to join you and make it a safe, socially distant outing.
  • Take a photo/selfie of your favorite sculptures and share on social media. Please remember to use the hashtag #MaskUpSTL and tag the Arts Chamber!

Mask Up – Get a #MaskUpSTL Face Mask!

Support the #MaskUpSTL movement to help curb the spread of COVID-19 with a limited edition face mask! The design features the flag of St. Louis and matches the custom-made masks that were installed on the 80+ sculptures around the region. Masks are $14.00 each and shipping is included. Proceeds of mask sales will benefit local area artists who donated their time to make and install masks around St. Louis.

Order Your Mask

Please note: it may take up to three weeks for you to receive your order due to delays in the production process, as a result of COVID-19.

See STL Tours

Facilitated by the Missouri Historical Society, See STL’s fun and creative tours mix engaging storytelling and a deep well of historical knowledge with an infectious enthusiasm for the exciting changes the city is currently undergoing – including the #MaskUpSTL project! Walking tours of various neighborhoods, including Downtown, Grand Center, and Central West End, give you a chance to learn something new and appreciate the public art installed throughout the region.
